Varco Pruden Products Selected For LEED Silver Facility In Daytona Beach

Two types of framing and a standing seam roof system by Varco Pruden Buildings were utilized in the construction of the 20,000 sq. ft. Midtown Cultural And Educational Center in Daytona Beach, FL.

The project consists of a gymnasium and classrooms and was constructed of two metal building portions and one conventional steel building segment – all coordinated, supplied and installed by Harrell Construction. The facility includes a 9,000 sq. ft. gym that is covered by a barrel roof with segmented rigid frames, and a 9,000 sq. ft. classroom area. All of the walls are 1’-3” tilt walls that were cast onsite.

Varco Pruden Rigid Frame and Continuous Beam framing were selected for their ability to be recycled and because the framing uses steel that was made with recycled content. Although LEED certification was not a requirement of the project, it was noted that the Center achieved LEED Silver status. Varco Pruden’s SSR roofing was also used on the project, selected in a Cool Cotton White color for its low Solar Reflectance Index rating.

The Varco Pruden Builder was Harrell Construction Co. Inc. of Jacksonville, FL. The Designer was Starmer Ranaldi Planning And Architecture of Oviedo, FL. The project was completed in March 2012.
