In the annals of Irish history, the tale of the Nine Fine Irishmen is the stuff of legend. It's fitting then that a Las Vegas pub bearing the same name should be something special too. The bar enjoys a destination reputation for its authentic food, spirits and entertainment, as well as for its incredible décor. Not to be overlooked is the establishment's ornately designed patio bar. It functions with the help of attractively styled hydraulic doors from Schweiss Doors of Fairfax, MN.
Nine Fine Irishmen is located inside the New York New York Hotel, just across from the MGM Grand Casino and the nearby Tropicana. The pub's two-level interior, with seating inside or on the balcony, features a grand Victorian-style bar, ornate cottage areas and shop-style snugs, all handcrafted in Ireland by local tradesmen using authentic Irish materials.
The pub's outdoor seating areas offer 360-degree views of the Las Vegas Strip. Bar service on the street-level patio is supported by a kiosk that it can be quickly and conveniently opened or closed with key-operated hydraulic doors from Schweiss. On the two long sides of the kiosk are 15'-1.5" x 4'-4" doors and on the ends are 7'-11.5" doors. Separate key stations operate each door, though all four are powered by a single hydraulic pump located in a mechanical area some 50' away. The doors close on granite counter tops and are fitted with electric photo eye sensors and manual latches. When the doors are open they provide shade to the area around the bar. When closed, they provide a tight seal and security to the contents inside.
McKeon Door of Nevada, located in Las Vegas, had input on the design and was in charge of door installation. “The install went very well from soup to nuts,” said Kevin Sweeney, the company's vice president of operations. “It was kind of a unique install which was designed to have a single pump open all four doors. Just from a convenience standpoint they were looking to remotely locate the pump, electrical lines and key switches in one adjacent electrical room location.”
Additional custom work was done to blend the doors into the kiosk. Custom side plates were also used to camouflage the two hydraulic cylinders on each door.
“The cylinders are hidden from the exterior when the doors are closed and the end-user provided custom fit nylon covers with Velcro closures to conceal the cylinders when the doors are open,” said Sweeney.
