Citadel panels highlight prominent entryways and design features of the new Princess Anne Outpatient Medical Center in Virginia Beach, VA. Part of the Sentara Healthcare network, the facility is located on 24 acres and includes two medical office buildings, emergency department, imaging center, laboratory services and retail pharmacy.

Approximately 3,500 sq. ft. of Citadel Envelope 2000® Rout & Return System panels were utilized. The metal composite material panels feature a Clear Anodized finish.

Design for the Center was provided by Lyall Design, Norfolk, VA. “Our mission was to develop a look that would be consistent with the Princess Anne corridor guidelines while providing some architectural drama,” said Randy Lyall. “We wanted an architectural style that would reflect the Center’s state-of-the-art services while still being sensitive to scheduling and budget constraints.”

Virginia Beach has embraced the project as a model of current architecture consistent with its mission for establishing good design.

“We balanced the proportion of glass, masonry and metal,” according to Lyall. “The two-color masonry bands help manage the scale and we took advantage of opportunities at the corners and entryways to introduce the Citadel panels. We also incorporated metal as part of the fascia to create a rhythm between the solid massing material and the lighter glass.”

This was not the first project Lyall had designed using Citadel products. “We have a great deal of experience and confidence with Citadel,” reports Lyall. “We like their innovation.”

The Envelope 2000 panels were fabricated and installed by Composite Wall Systems, Virginia Beach.
