SAF Capabilities On Display At New South Carolina Hospital

Designed by Gresham Smith and Partners of Greenville, SC and opened to the public in October 2008, the new Village Hospital in Greer, SC, is a patient-friendly. 45-bed facility that blends both form and function. Its attractive, low-maintenance exterior features a variety of materials, including 10,000 sq. ft. of Copper Penny-finished Reynobond aluminum composite panels.

While the Reynobond material itself was manufactured by Alcoa Architectural Products of Eastman, GA, the project’s ACM panels were fabricated by SAF Metal Fabrication of Atlanta, GA, and installed by Tri State Glass of Greenville using SAF’s proprietary Series C-3000 wet seal attachment system. The caulked C-3000 system prevents water from penetrating the substrate and is designed for high wind load applications. It is available with factory applied stiffeners to prevent oil canning.

SAF’s involvement did not end with the ACM panels. It also provided the project’s brake-formed metal components and some painted extrusions to match the curtain wall, and handled the draft work, shop drawings and final details relating to the wall panels.

Robins & Morton was the project’s general contractor.
