American Buildings Company Supplies Unique Indoor Zip Line Park

C. Tucker Cope & Associates Inc., an American Buildings Company (ABC) Authorized Builder, used a metal building system to complete ZipCity™, an 18,000 square-foot facility in Streetsboro, Ohio that contains what is described as the first indoor zip line and trampoline park in the world.

ZipCity™ started as a complex project with specific requirements and restrictions due to designing an indoor zip line to fit over a trampoline area on a very restricted site.

“This was an unusual design project that utilized many ABC products in extraordinary ways,” said Tucker Cope, VP of C. Tucker Cope & Associates Inc. “The use of BIM technology was essential to this process because we weren’t just working around HVAC and electrical restrictions; there were jump height requirements for the trampolines with cabling and safety netting on top of considering the zip line geometry, speed, stopping distance, loading and unloading of the track.”

The building was designed in Revit with the owner’s concept and the contractor’s extensive research in mind. This allowed the design team and owner to see what the finished project would look like and resolve any potential design issues before construction began. Once the metal building design was finalized, the Tekla model was inserted into the Revit model to allow for a 100 percent accurate model of the building and interior finishes.

C. Tucker Cope & Associates provided and installed a metal building framing system that included 25-foot and 14-foot mezzanines, zip line attachments and canopies at the structures entrance that were built with Loc Seam colored panels and American Soffit Liners. American Standing Seam II panels that float on a system of sliding clips to prevent damage from thermal expansion and contraction were used for the roof. Standing Seam designs eliminate 80 percent of the through-fasteners for greater weather tightness.

Together, ABC and C. Tucker Cope & Associates completed the $2.5 million custom built project in December of 2013, and the satisfied owner opened its door soon after in the location on Cleveland’s east side.
