A new sales office for Trane in Madison, WI consists of three single-slope buildings, supplied by Star Building Systems, for a total square footage of 10,550.

The entrance building in the middle is attached to the taller supporting buildings by means of bracketed rafters. The entrance building sidewall was designed as open for glass and Trespa panels with 20-gauge metal stud wall framing. The taller buildings utilized AVP 26-gauge wall panels in Medium Bronze and Colonial Red for color transitions at 2’8” and 9’4” elevations with 8” split-face block below. 5’ projection canopies surround the taller buildings and the high side has a 2’ projection, all with soffit panels in a 26-gauge Colonial Red PBR profile.

A Star metal building was chosen over conventional construction for cost effectiveness, open structure capability, and ease and flexibility of construction. To make this project more energy efficient, a specialized HVAC system was utilized along with a deep overhang and 1” gray tinted insulated low-E glazing with thermally broken aluminum frame. Simple Saver insulation by Thermal Design was also installed.

It was noted that the professional, contemporary design of the sales office reflects the end user’s requirements at a cost-effective price. The design provides an open floor plan and wall area designed to allow natural light with a connection to the outside.

The Star builder and general contractor was TJK Design Build, Madison, WI; the company also served as project designer. The erector was Walking Iron, Black Earth, WI. The owner of this facility is Spartan Properties.
