Approximately 1,500 square feet of Petersen’s new horizontal wall panels were utilized as an important design element on the Georgia State University Piedmont North dining hall addition on the Atlanta campus. The 16” concealed fastener panels were finished in PAC-CLAD® Kynar 500® Sandstone finish color.

The 325-seat dining hall provides “fine food in a fun atmosphere,” according to Lenore Musick, food services manager. The 9,000 square foot addition is linked to a mid-rise residence hall and also provides space for activities and special events.

Design for the project was provided by Richard Wittschiebe Hand Architects, Atlanta. The tight building site required “a complicated interface of elements,” according to Martha Henderson-Bennett, senior project manager. “The horizontal wall panels offered a nice low-level counterpoint to the vertical structure behind the dining hall addition. The metal panels were selected for their durability and low maintenance. We wanted to put them up and know they would last,” Henderson-Bennett said.

The Petersen panels interface with painted fiber cement board and translucent glass.

Installation of the Petersen panels was done by Bristol Engineered Metals, Duluth, GA. “This was one of the first uses of Petersen’s new horizontal corrugated concealed fastener product,” said Keith Jansen, president. “The panels went up as expected and performed well. The end laps nested nicely. It was a pretty straight-forward job and turned out really well. There were no problems at all.”

Petersen’s new horizontal wall panels are available in two profiles—concealed fastener flange and a concealed clip version for longer lengths—and are designed to provide superior wind-uplift resistance and outstanding aesthetics for wall and siding applications. The panels are available in 12” and 16” widths.
