The Plainfield Fire Territory in Hendricks County, Indiana responds to more than 4,400 calls annually. To provide better response throughout the Territory’s 45-square-mile service area, the agency recently constructed Fire Station 123. The 23,000 square foot facility includes four truck bays and room to house 16 firefighters and EMTs, plus training and administrative space.

The building utilizes 6,500 square feet of Metl-Span CF-16, CF-24 and CF-32 Architectural Flat insulated wall panels. The horizontally installed panels were finished in Atlantic Sunrise and feature false reveals. The building also incorporates Metl-Span’s Metl-Vision® window system as a key part of the design. Metl-Vision is the first window system with a flush frame design to fully integrate with the Metl-Span horizontal wall panel joint.

Installation of the panels and window system was done by ProCLAD, Inc., Noblesville, IN. “For a relatively small project, this was a medium to high-complexity job from our standpoint,” said Brad Hitzfield, president. “The project had custom reveals as well as false reveals and utilized several different panel modules. The challenge, of course, was maintaining the horizontal lines and integrating the different systems in making the transition around corners.”

The share of market for insulated metal panels continues to grow, according to Hitzfield. “More and more architects understand building envelopes and rely on energy models as a key part of their design. They know the value of getting the insulation outboard of the framing so it can be continuous,” Hitzfield said.
