A four-story parking structure at the new Fallsview Indoor Waterpark in Niagara Falls, Ontario utilized approximately 72,000 sq. ft. of Metl-Span’s new 6” ThermalSafe fire-resistive insulated panels. ThermalSafe’s structural mineral wool core resists high temperatures and achieves one and two-hour fire resistive ratings under the most demanding conditions.

Installation of the ThermalSafe panels was completed by Zero-Loc, Metl-Span’s exclusive distributor in Canada. Zero-Loc is headquartered in Vancouver and has additional offices in Brantford, Ontario and Seattle, WA.

The waterpark facilities are situated atop the parking structure. Local code required a two-hour rating on the firebreak panels installed on the ceilings of the four parking levels. According to David Maybury, Zero-Loc’s project manager in eastern Canada, “The pure scale of the ceiling work was quite an undertaking. There was lots of tricky detail work in order to meet code requirements around the bulkheads and slopes in the parking structure. But we’ve had lots of experience with Metl-Span and the material is very easy to work with. And we really flew through the straight panel work. It was an on-time, on-budget project that everyone is extremely happy with.”

In addition to the ThermalSafe panels, more than 15,000 sq. ft. of Metl-Span 26 gauge CF-42 Light Mesa wall panels were also utilized in exterior applications on the job.

The project was designed by Raimondo & Associates Architects Inc., Niagara Falls, Ontario. The general contractor was Clearspan, Inc., Stoney Creek, Ontario.
