Rockford Cardiology

Once scattered throughtout an aging, three-story building that offered no potential for the growing practice, Rockford Cardiology Associates Ltd. of Rockford, IL, is now in a new home. In addition to having the latest amenities, the 53,000 sq. ft. building conveys an image of success and progressiveness, due in large measure to its design. P-G Architecture Design/Build skinned the building with a combination of glass and 19,000 sq. ft. of Dri-Design® wall panels in Silver Mica and Weathered Zinc Mica.

Cite Shopping Mall

To spur the local economy, government officials in the Baden-Baden area of Germany granted permission for a retail development on land previously designated as a conservation area. On the heels of that decision came the design and construction of the new Cité Shopping Mall. It features 260,000 sq. ft. retail space contained in a pair of round buildings connected to one another by a covered passageway. The buildings were designed by Form A Architects and clad with nearly 140,000 sq. ft. of stucco-embossed Kalzip aluminum standing seam panels.

Calvary Christian School

Calvary Christian School is a state-of-the-art educational facility with plenty of room to grow. Completed in June 2007, the building features more than 8,000 sq. ft. of unfinished space on its second floor. The school was designed by Omega Church Consultants using a pre-engineered metal building system and components by Metallic Building Co., Houston, TX. In addition to providing economy in terms of its initial construction costs, the school's extensive use of metal wall and roof systems ensures little maintenance will be required to keep the building's exterior in tip top condition.

Boyne Highlands Resort

Boyne Highlands is a ski resort in Harbor Springs, Michigan, that has undergone a variety of renovations. The ivy-covered walls accent the English country estate charm of the Main Lodge, while a total of 165 accommodations of varying sizes and shapes make for an exciting and unique guest experience. A prominent feature in those renovations is stunning Red metal roofing from Metal Sales Manufacturing Corp. The Vertical Seam panels, formed from 24-gauge steel, feature 18"-wide coverage with a concealed clip, standing seam design.

British School

Designwall™ 2000 architectural insulated metal wall panels from Kingspan Insulated Panels, along with X-12 single element ribbed wall panels from Kingspan's Morin Division were combined on the exterior of the newly constructed British School in Chicago. Located near the city's North Loop, the 80,000 sq. ft. building was designed by Valerio Dewalt and Train as part of the Blackhawk Halsted mixed-use development. Also part of the project is a 146,000 sq. ft. commercial building and a 547-car parking structure.

Holiday Inn Express, Wauwatosa, WI

The Holiday Inn Express hotel in Wauwatosa, WI, was recently provided with a new, updated look thanks to canopies topped with curved panels from Floline Architectural Systems. The new canopies' panels, utilizing Floline’s 900 Series Panel formed from 22 gauge steel with a Kynar Silver Visulure II finish, were crimp-curved to a 37’-1 ½” radius and 25’-1 ½” radius. Due to the complexity of the project, interaction between the installer and the Floline Design Team was paramount.

University Of Manchester Michael Smith Biosciences Building

James & Taylor’s award-winning façade for the University of Manchester’s biosciences building in Manchester, UK, was created using four different anodized finishes that coated both mirror polished and highly-etched Senses aluminium (aluminum) tiles. The stunning result on the Michael Smith building was due to a close collaboration between the façade specialist and architects Sheppard Robson. It features a ‘random’ pattern that ensured the different finishes were distributed across the elevation to give a cohesive façade.

Robert Service High School

The exterior of the newly constructed Robert Service High School in Anchorage, AK, is colorful and uplifting. Architects Alaska, Anchorage, made it so through its extensive use of Panel 20® metal composite material wall panels from Citadel Architectural Products of Indianapolis, IN. The panels were fabricated in the field by Commercial Contractors Inc. using material in five different colors. Pacific Architectural Products of Clackamas, OR, was the product distributor.

Church Of The Ascension

A solid building but in dire need of a makeover, the Church of Ascension was given renewed attractiveness through the replacement of its weathered board and batten siding with smooth-faced Omega-Lite® aluminum composite wall panels. Manufactured by Laminators Inc. of Hatfield, PA, the panels have .032" aluminum face sheets and feature a factory-applied Bright Silver PVDF paint finish. The panel system was installed on the Virginia Beach, VA project by Baker Roofing of Norfolk LLC of Norfolk, VA.

Fire & Emergency Services Training Institute

Innovation is one of the defining features of the new Fire and Emergency Services Training Institute (FESTI) at Toronto Pearson International Airport. Located at the airport's west end, the $13.5 million facility provides leading-edge education and intensive training for emergency and crisis situations. Just as advanced as its educational program is its design. It incorporates a number of energy saving features including a Solarwall® passive solar heated air induction exterior wall system. The building was designed by Kleinfeldt Mychajlowycz Architects of Toronto.

Davidson Center For Space Exploration

Approximately 85,000 sq. ft. of Metl-Span CF42 Light Mesa wall panels play a key role in the design of the Davidson Center for Space Exploration at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. The 2-½” insulated panels were finished with Polar White on the exterior and custom Matte Black on the interior to contrast with the gleaming Saturn V lunar rocket vehicle displayed inside. The $22 million facility—measuring 476' long x 90' wide x 64' tall—was designed by Gresham, Smith and Partners of Birmingham, AL, and the panels were installed by JWC Specialties Inc. of Nashville, TN.

Intercontinental Hotel

SAF Metal Fabrication designed and fabricated the 5,000 sq. ft. of .125" aluminum plate wall panels that wrap the columns and beams of a monumental canopy outside the entrance to Boston's recently completed Intercontinental Hotel. The hotel was designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects of Boston, and the panels, which feature a custom Atlantic Silver PDVF paint finish by PPG, were installed by Karas & Karas Glass of South Boston.

Margrethekirken Church Renovation

The Margrethekirken is one of the most famous modern church buildings in all of Denmark. Located in the city of Aalborg and completed in the 1970s, this architecturally impressive place of worship was designed by Ole Knudsen, MAA of Knudsen & Ostergaard a/s of Denmark. Through the years, due primarily to the type of insulation/moisture sealant used, mold developed on the church's roof beams and eventually led to rot. With the entire structure threatened, church officials authorized a $1.6 million renovation project that included re-cladding the signature steeple with Reynobond® aluminum composite material.

Avalon Communities Apartments

Cambridge Architectural's Tile and Circuit 141A architectural metal mesh patterns were used in the elevators of a pair recently constructed New York City apartment buildings. At Avalon Chrystie Place, in the heart of Manhattan, 168 sq. ft. of the company's Circuit 141A was chosen, while at the elevator of Avalon on the Sound East, located in Westchester County, 750 sq. ft. of Tile was utilized. Circuit features rigid, closed weaves. It was affixed to substrates and installed in the elevator cabs as wall, floor, ceiling and facade panels. Tile has rigid open weaves and is often used in elevator cabs, stair rail systems and grillwork.

Fort Drum

One of the largest and most extensive solar air heating projects in the world has now been completed for the United States Military base at Fort Drum, in upstate New York. The project is extremely significant in terms of the sheer magnitude of energy and CO2 savings, and it shows the tremendous potential for solar thermal when it is deployed on a large scale. The transpired solar collecting metal wall panels at the heart of the project are Solarwall®, by Conserval Engineering of Toronto. The panels were installed right over the top of the existing claddings on 27 buildings and have already yielded tremendous energy savings.

Village Of Streamwood Police Department

Petersen Aluminum’s column covers and beam wraps played a key role in the design of the new Village of Streamwood Police Department building in Streamwood, IL. The building is part of a municipal campus that includes the Village Hall and Veterans Memorial. The design utilized Petersen’s PAC 1000C Series Column Covers and Beam Wraps finished in Clear Anodized. In addition, approximately 27,000 sq. ft. of PAC-CLAD Tite-Loc panels finished in Musket Gray were used on the roof.

Jiffy Lube And Suds Express Car Wash

Design specifications for a new combined Jiffy Lube automotive maintenance center and Suds Express car wash in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, were clear and concise from the project’s inception. “From our very first meeting, I was charged to design for the future,” recalls Neil Cotton, who served as designer and construction manager for Waterloo, Ontario-based M.C.G.W. Properties Group, which owns and operates 18 innovative car maintenance locations in southwest Ontario. Playing a big role in the design is 8,390 square feet of Alucobond® Aluminum Composite Material (ACM) by Alcan Composites USA.

Overland Park Convention Center

The dream of a convention center has become a reality for officials in the City of Overland Park, KS. It features more than 237,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space, meeting/multi-purpose areas and ballroom space, and is linked to an adjacent 412-room Sheraton Hotel, which has an additional 25,000 sq. ft. of meeting space. Visually connecting the two buildings are 35,000 sq. ft. of Envelope 2000® metal composite panels from Citadel Architectural Products. The metal panels are finished in custom Seafoam Green and were attached using Citadel's progressive Reveal System.

Saratoga Race Course Clubhouse

Preservationists have opposed changes at New York’s historic Saratoga Race Course that would compromise or negatively affect the track’s Victorian charm. And they seem so far to have friends in all the right places. As part of a recently completed round of improvements, the grandstand’s 10,000 sq. ft. clubhouse roof was removed and replaced. And as before, it is topped again with hand-crafted copper standing seam. The panels, as well as all necessary flashings, trim, gutters, etc., were fabricated and installed by WeatherGuard Roofing Co. a Tecta America Company, using 16 oz. copper manufactured by Revere Copper.

Helen Hayes Hospital

Historical projects can be difficult to repair and renovate; much time and effort is spent trying to maintain the historical look and feel of the project. Helen Hayes Hospital, in West Haverstraw, NY, had a 100-year-old slate roof that needed to be replaced. As a rehabilitation facility for inpatient and outpatient care, it was important for the facility to remain open and operable during the reroofing process. Additionally, the new product had to be easy and quick to install. DECRA Shake stone coated steel roofing, in Mist Grey, was chosen for the project.
