Princess Anne Outpatient Medical Center

Citadel panels highlight prominent entryways and design features of the new Princess Anne Outpatient Medical Center in Virginia Beach, VA. Part of the Sentara Healthcare network, the facility is located on 24 acres and includes two medical office buildings, emergency department, imaging center, laboratory services and retail pharmacy.Approximately 3,500 sq. ft. of Citadel Envelope 2000® Rout & Return System panels were utilized. Lyall Design of Norfolk, VA, was the project's architect.

Benicia-Martinez Toll Plaza

The new $1.2 billion Benicia-Martinez, Calif., Bridge is a 1.6 mile long, five-lane bridge spanning the Carquinez Strait between Contra Costa and Solano counties. The Benicia-Martinez toll plaza incorporates unique curvilinear forms and a changing color scheme in its design. The plaza features approximately 55,000 square feet of Alucobond® Aluminum Composite Material by Alcan Composites USA, in the 4mm thickness and Copper Metallic color and 6,000 square feet of Alucobond in the 4mm thickness and Shimmering Teal color, to clad the building walls and canopies.

Charlotte Douglas Airport, Parking Decks

CENTRIA’s EcoScreen® Perforated Screenwall panels were specified for Charlotte Douglas International Airport’s two five-story parking decks, for their many aesthetic, practical and budgetary attributes. Approximately 60,000 square feet of CENTRIA’s EcoScreen was specified for each parking deck in 20-gauge stainless steel Econolap ¾” and Style-Rib exposed fastener profiles.

New Hampshire Victorian

It was love at first sight for a New Hampshire couple involved in real estate flipping. So rather than remodel and sell the 1880’s Victorian they’d discovered in West Lebanon, NH, they decided instead to renovate the home and keep it for themselves. In addition to revamping the interior—which included adding a home gymnasium—they re-did the exterior, making its signature feature a new Englert Series 1300 standing seam metal roof.

Pattengill Middle School

The design of the new Pattengill Middle School in Lansing, MI is intended to provide a flagship look for future Lansing School District facilities. The 200,000 sq. ft., 850-student institution delivers a “high tech, modern, up-to-date look” according to architect Jay Van Duren of GMB Architects, Holland, MI. Among the exterior building products chosen by the firm to help create the desired image were Dri-Design® dry-joint, pressure-equalized rainscreen panels. Approximately 9,000 sq. ft. of the aluminum panels in two thicknesses and sizes were installed on the school's exterior.

Chillicothe Baptist Church

Measuring 42,800 square feet, the Chillicothe Baptist Church required several large clear spans, which were achieved more economically by utilizing Star Building Systems pre-engineered structures. Completed in October 2007, this Chillicothe, OH, church was created with a traditional exterior using nine Star Building Systems structures. Star also provided their StarShield roof system in Rustic Red and StarMark wall panels in Regal White.

Van Buren County Road Commission

This 55,000 sq. ft. vehicle storage/maintenance facility for the Van Buren County Road Commission is located in Lawrence, MI. It features Ridge Frame and Continuous Beam framing by VP Buildings, along with metal roofing. The SSR standing seam roofing system, also by VP Buildings in a Leaf Green color, is unusual because it has a liner installed over the purlins with a vapor retarder and rigid insulation to provide a consistent thermal barrier.

Home Depot Parking Structure

With the well-known retailer's new store sitting at the base of the Holland Tunnel--a spot where more than 100,000 cars pass daily--there was a desire to give the two-story parking structure attached to Home Depot's new Jersey City, NJ location a visually appealing, yet equally durable exterior. This led to the specification of a Parkade™ metal fabric application from Cambridge Architectural, featuring 14,700 sq. ft. of the company's Mid-Balance fabric and Eclipse™ attachment hardware. The store and parking deck were designed by SBLM Architects, New York City, NY.

Honolulu Design Center

A stiffer design challenge than this is tough to imagine: Create a landmark home for the Honolulu Design Center that is uniquely contemporary for Hawaii, stands out yet fits into the naturally dramatic island backdrop, and puts the design center on an equal footing with centers in other major design cities around the world. Alucobond® PE Core by Alcan Composites USA met this aesthetic challenge.

Shoe Carnival Headquarters

Woodward Development & Construction, Inc. faced tough competition from economic development agencies in Florida, Kentucky and Indiana and other interests who were already pursuing the new facilities associated with the announced relocation of Shoe Carnival, a major shoe store chain based in Evansville, IN. At stake were a 60,000 sq. ft. Class “A” headquarters building, a 410,000 sq. ft distribution center and 120 new jobs. Metal building systems from Butler Manufacturing Corp. were integral components of both these projects.

St. George's Serbian Orthodox Church

Met-Tile was selected to re-roof the St. George’s Serbian Orthodox Church in Duluth, Minnesota because it looks like clay tile and provided the “Old World” look required by the church, which dates back to the early 1900s. According to the installer, K.F. Loosen Construction Co., panels were applied over the existing asphalt shingle roofing after the structural engineer verified that the roof framing could bear the additional load of the Met-Tile panels, which weigh 125 lb. per square. Met-Tile roofing is a product of McElroy Metal.

Orem YMCA

A key component of the new Orem YMCA facility in Houston, TX is the outdoor play area and swimming pool. Approximately 2,000 sq. ft. of RHEINZINK® Preweathered Blue-Gray perforated, corrugated fence panels were used to provide security for members as well as durability and aesthetic appeal for the neighborhood facility. Design for the 25,000 sq. ft. YMCA was provided by Brave Architecture, Houston. The design concept was new for Y facilities, according to Greg Ryden, project manager.

Georgia Highlands College, Bartow Center

Metal roofing by Petersen Aluminum was selected for use on a structure that will set the tone for a new college campus. The Bartow Center is the first building on a new campus for Georgia Highlands College, Cartersville, GA, a two-year institution of the University of Georgia system. The 100,000 sq. ft. facility is somewhat of a campus-under-one-roof with class rooms, administrative offices, science labs, library and student areas.

Water + Life Museums

At the entrance to California’s 4,500-acre Diamond Valley Lake lies the Water + Life Museums spread out over a 23-acre campus. The slender steel towers of sister museums – The center for Water Education and Western Center for Archaeology and Paleontology – along with classrooms, offices, gift shops, laboratories and education landscape celebrate southern California’s water infrastructure. From solar panels to interior lighting to CENTRIA’s Formawall® Dimension Series® insulated panels, the building program is a living example of sustainability and conservation.

E-Life Station

E-Life Station is a multi-use facility that includes retail and office space with an isolated technology center located in Charleston, South Carolina. The half-million dollar project began in October 2006 and was completed May 2007 and totals nearly 5,000 square feet. A pre-engineered metal building with a standing seam roof system by Metallic Building company was used for the project because of its complexity and uniqueness. The metal system also allowed for an exposed ceiling in the interior space.

Pan Pacific Cement

Five buildings, totaling approximately 90,000 sq. ft., make up the Pan Pacific Cement facility at the Port Of Sacramento in West Sacramento, CA. VP Buildings supplied the metal buildings that were used for this impressive complex that was completed on a fast track schedule and called for a 200’ clearspan in the main building.

Pacific Medical Center

As a groundbreaking new structure in Costa Mesa, CA, Pacific Medical Center’s unique metal and glass facade sets the building apart from others in the area. Metal wall systems from Kingspan Insulated Panels and Kingspan Morin helped contribute to the new building’s desired aesthetic and were selected for their energy-saving qualities.

Crowne Plaza

Though covering just 600 sq. ft. of area, the Omega-Lite® panels featured on the Crowne Plaza building in Fort Myers, FL, play a huge role in the building’s look and character. The building was designed by Gora McGahey of Fort Myers and features as its architectural highlight a large wave-form canopy clad with Kynar-finished Omega-Lite® panels in a custom yellow color. The panels were manufactured by Laminators Inc. of Hatfield, PA.

Atkinson Toyota Scion Renovation

In 2006, with the need for more space paramount, the owners of the 25-year-old Atkinson Toyota Scion dealership in Bryan, TX commissioned architects R.L. Payne & Associates, Inc. of College Station, TX to almost triple the size of the showroom, re-configure the service areas and update the look of their aging facility in accordance with Toyota's current corporate construction guidelines. The architect's design for the revamped facility integrated new and old spaces, and unified their look on the outside by creating an all-new facade using Reynobond® Aluminum Composite Material and other products from Alcoa Architectural Products.

University of Cincinnati Campus Housing and Recreation Center

Thom Mayne, founder of Morphosis and the 2005 Pritzker Prize Winner, in association with KZF Design, Inc,. is one of the innovative minds behind this extremely complex facility. The University of Cincinnati Campus Housing and Recreation Center is designed as five buildings in one—an athletic core, six electronic classrooms, housing, restaurants/dining, and stadium grandstands comprise the 350,000 square foot complex. A key element of the design CENTRIA’s Formawall® Dimension Series® wall panels.
