University Federal Credit Union, Ben White Branch

The Ben White Branch of the University Federal Credit Union (UFCU) in Austin, TX uses curved panels from Kalzip to create a unique but highly functional element of this dynamic green building. The facility actually has two of these unique cylindrical aluminum sheaths. One encircles a cistern that is part of the building’s rainwater collection system and the other is a sign that replicates the cover on the cistern.

City Of Vancouver Salt Storage

To VersaTube® Building Systems, a leading manufacturer of pre-engineered steel building components and framing systems, it doesn’t come as a surprise. When Easy Build Structures, an authorized VersaTube® dealer based in Surrey, British Columbia, reported the sale and construction of a customized building to the City of Vancouver for use as a salt storage cover, it represented yet another new market application for the company’s flexible steel building designs.

Roanoke City Market Building

Roanoke, Virginia’s City Market is the oldest continually operating open-air market in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It began with the issuance of 25 licenses to vendors—then known as Hucksters—in 1882. In 1886, two years after the creation of a municipal market was authorized by the first City of Roanoke Charter, the City Market Building was constructed. It became the heart around with the Curb Market and Market Square were developed. When the old building's roof began to fail, putting a new metal system on in its place was the obvious solution. That new roof was manufactured by McNeil Roofing, A Sentrigard Metal Roofing Systems Certified Contractor.

Community Banks of Colorado Building

The Community Banks of Colorado building in Denver, Colorado, features a bank on the ground level with office space on the floors above, and an exterior balcony on the third floor. The granite and glass structure’s exterior includes 8,000 sq. ft. of Bone White Omega-Lite® panels, manufactured by Laminators Incorporated in Hatfield, PA. The Omega-Lite panels were fabricated on-site and installed by Sondrup Sheet Metal of Englewood, Colorado, using Laminators’ 1-Piece Tight Fit Molding System.

Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center

The new Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center is located on the 40-acre Centegra Health Campus in Huntley, IL. The 120,000 sq. ft. facility presents a high-tech exterior look that features a “running bond” panel pattern plus random placement of two different silver colors of Metl-Span panels. The running bond pattern creates a distinctive appearance by staggering the vertical joints between panels. Approximately 26,000 sq. ft. of Metl-Span 2” Architectural Flat insulated panels were utilized. The majority of the panels were 24” x 64”.

Bank Of Georgia - Newnan

Approximately 9,000 sq. ft. of Petersen Snap-On standing seam roof panels provided key architectural branding elements for the new Bank of Georgia located in Newnan, GA. The straight and radiused 24 gauge panels were finished in PAC-CLAD® Kynar 500® Medium Bronze.

Delta Power Sports

Situated in Lathrop, CA, this 12,231 sq. ft. project for Delta Power Sports utilized a custom metal building, by Star Building Systems, for the clear span requirements as well as cost considerations and speed of construction. Delta Power Sports is covered by Star’s StarShield Roof System in Polar White color. Conventional framing was used for the wall system, along with metal stud framing and stucco for the exterior. Completed in June 2008, this project is used for all-terrain vehicle sales.

Florida Hangar Home

Those who believe there are limits to the imagination—especially when it comes to housing both airplanes and people in the same structure—should meet Daniel Shaw. A resident of Geneva, Florida, the 62-year-old plumbing contractor has taken the “hangar home” concept to a whole new level. Shaw’s metal-clad hangar home is 50’ wide x 60’ deep x 30’ tall. Its most noticeable feature initially is the porch that wraps the front and two sides of the building. A closer look, however, reveals that a large section of the porch is actually built into the façade of the home’s 45’-wide x 15’-high Schweiss Doors hydraulic hangar door.

Private Residence - Caledonia

As part of an ambitious residential remodel, a Canadian homeowner turned a one-story home into a two, and changed its style from classic bungalow to Spanish mission. In completing a true-to-style transformation, the owner chose stucco and brick for the home’s new exterior walls and tile for the roof. But Allmet stone-coated steel—provided by VICWEST—was chosen over authentic clay or concrete for two basic reasons: weight and longevity.

Oklahoma Heart Institute

Hillcrest Medical Center’s striking new Oklahoma Heart Institute in Tulsa presents an inviting appearance both inside and out. The six-story, 183,000 sq. ft. building is capped with a round rotunda that emits a beacon visible at night across half of the city. Approximately 23,000 linear feet of Flex-C Trac and Flex-C Angle cold-formed/light-gauge steel framing products from Flex-Ability Concepts were used to frame the rotunda and entire front façade as well as create the interior curves and radiuses that help provide a welcoming feel.

Sierra Canyon School

The artistic shade screen on the new Science and Humanities Building at the Sierra Canyon School in Chatsworth, CA, offers a pleasing break from the ordinary for students looking through it and for passers-by looking at it. The curved screen, made of perforated Kalzip aluminum panels, is a key design component of the 54,000-square-foot building that includes classrooms, a library, science and laboratory facilities, and a student center.

Yucca Valley Steel Home Prototype

4,000 feet above sea level, in the Southern California desert town of Yucca Valley rests the first all-steel house prototype from Blue Sky Homes. This 1,000 square foot, light-gauge, galvanized steel home marks the beginning of a new movement not only for pre-fabricated residential homes, but as an answer to the environmental standards of today’s sustainable building movement. The house is based on the Blue Sky Homes Building System™ and showcases the use of metal in prefabricated residential applications, from the steel frame design, to the energy efficient steel roof manufactured by AEP Span.

Bucksmont Indoor Sports

Located in Hatfield, PA, Bucksmont Indoor Sports is a 73,200 sq. ft. facility that benefited from the use of a custom metal building by Star Building Systems because of the project’s large clear span requirements. The Star builder was Schlosser Steel Buildings, Inc., Hatfield, PA. The steel erector was Branning Steel Erectors, Inc., Souderton, PA. The engineer of record was Schlosser Steel Engineering, Inc., Hatfield, PA.

Wesleyan Celebration Centre

Forty years ago, the parishioners at the Moncton Wesleyan Church in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, numbered just 65. Things have changed a lot since then. Today the church is the largest in Atlantic Canada, with Sunday services and special events attracting upwards of 2,000 people. They meet in the new Wesleyan Celebration Centre. It was part of a 36,200 sq. ft. addition constructed with the aid of metal building systems and components from Robertson Building Systems.

Artech Condominium Parking Garage

Ohio Gratings, Inc. (OGi) provided its VisiScreen aluminum louver product for the Artech Condominium project in Florida. The primary application for the material was a functional and decorative grille system on an 800-foot-long, 5-story parking garage designed to resemble a cruise ship. The VisiScreen material allowed for a 60% visual block and deflection of car headlights from adjacent condo buildings while allowing the parking garage to be ventilated naturally with 65% open air flow provided by the louvers.

Southern General Hospital

Cladding specialists James & Taylor have created a shimmering, high-tech façade for Glasgow’s new £17 million maternity unit - reflecting its world-class status in a project involving the biggest ever single investment in Scottish health services. The stunning finish to the new unit at the city’s Southern General Hospital was created using five different acid-etched processes on Senses aluminum (aluminium) tiles with an anodized finish.

Station Gallery

Drawing inspiration from both the building’s history and its context, architects Goldsmith, Borgal & Company of Toronto specified metal roofing and wall panels from VICWEST for an addition to the historic Station Gallery in Whitby, Ontario, Canada. Cladding the exterior of the train shed addition are 90 squares of VICWEST’s Tradition 150-4 roofing and 5,000 sq. ft. of VICWEST 7/8” corrugated siding. Both profiles were formed from 24-gauge Galvalume-Plus steel. Galvalume Plus is unpainted Galvalume-coated steel with a clear acrylic topcoat.

LaFontaine Buick Pontiac GMC Cadillac

In an industry often vilified for expanding man’s carbon footprint, one Michigan auto dealer has raised the bar for environmental consciousness by building the nation’s first LEED® Gold-certified auto dealership. The 63,000 sq. ft. LaFontaine Buick Pontiac GMC Cadillac dealership in Highland, MI, which opened in July 2008, received its LEED Gold certification in February by scoring 45 out of 46 possible points. Products utilized for the building's construction included more than 50,000 sq. ft. of Reynobond® aluminum composite material panels. Reynobond is a product of Alcoa Architectural Products.

Bridge At Sag Harbor Golf Clubhouse

While fond memories and gentle reminders of the old Bridgehampton road race course live on at the exclusive Bridge at Sag Harbor golf club in Long Island, New York, nostalgia is nowhere to be found in the design of the club’s 25,000 sq. ft. clubhouse. Designed by Ferris & Partners—which has offices in both Bridgehampton and Westport, CT—the $15 million building is sleek and modern, and counts glass and metal among its chief building materials. Topping the fan-shaped structure is an Englert standing seam roof system. The panels were formed from .040" with a preweathered Galvalume paint finish.

Faith Harvest Church

The Faith Harvest Church in Durham, NC, is a 16,817 sq. ft. facility that utilized a custom metal building by Star Building Systems, along with a StarShield Roof System in Seal Brown color. The Star Building Systems builder was Danco Builders, Inc., Rocky Mount, NC. The steel erector was King’s, Inc., Knightdale, NC. The architect was Gary Glueck, Nashville, NC.
