For ease and speed of construction, as well as their excellent thermal properties, Poirier Fontaine Architects of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, specified 40,000 sq. ft. VICWEST Insulated Metal Wall Panels with a Surrey Beige Colorite SMP paint finish for the exterior of a large Staples distribution center in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada. The building was completed in early 2007 and was VICWEST’s first insulated metal panel project in the Maritimes.

With increasing business and a 27,000 sq. ft. reduction in their total building space, achieving maximum efficiency and organization was essential for Charlotte, NC-based Ferguson Box. Wildeck® material handling solutions provided the necessary components to facilitate the reduction in square footage. More importantly, by strategically locating the mezzanine, a “core” area for supplies was established close to manufacturing.

Paws By The Lake is a pet resort, daycare and clinic in Avon Lake, OH, that totals 27,662 square feet. A custom metal building by Star Building Systems was chosen for its gabled framework which allows for the architectural pitch of a colorful standing seam roof, while the ease of construction was of true value for the builder on this project. The Star Building Systems builder, general contractor and steel erector for the project was Star, Inc., Amherst, OH. The architect was Star Architectural Group/John Reyes, Amherst, OH.

DECRA Roofing Systems was selected by Wall Homes to participate in a March 2009 edition of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Project. The popular television show, which airs Sundays at 8/7c on ABC, focused on “Heroes” during the 2008-09 season. The Augustin home rebuild project in Keller, TX, was on the fast-track with a 7 day completion from start to finish. The builder, Wall Homes, contacted DECRA about participating in the project with its stone coated steel roofing. Wall Homes was looking for a barrel tile profile to fit the style of the home with a couple of requirements - it had to install easily and quickly.

Dramatic growth in the student population at Goodwin College, East Hartford, CT, necessitated the expansion of the campus. Taking advantage of a nearby 30-acre brownfield site, the college eventually constructed a new 110,000 sq. ft. academic and administration building. Utilized extensively on the six-story building's exterior was Metl-Span CF-32 Architectural Flat insulated metal wall panels. They were finished in four complementary colors: Arabian Blue, Chromium Gray, Dove Gray and Light Gray.

Met-Tile roofing has long been touted for its extreme wind upload resistance. In September 2008 the product faced a real-world test of its abilities when Hurricane Ike slammed the Texas coastline at Galveston. The storm was rated the third most destructive hurricane ever to make landfall in the U.S. One of the Met-Tile projects in the storm’s path was a La Quinta Inn & Suites hotel. And though the building did sustain some damage to its stucco walls, the 24,000 sq. ft. of Met-Tile roofing survived intact, protecting the structure in the face of punishing winds and driving rain.

The Bungalows at Seagrove is a planned bungalow community of 56 individual 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath homes in Seagrove Beach, Florida. This well-appointed planned community is within walking distance of the beach and includes two pools, one heated pool and hot tub, masterfully landscaped grounds with an adjoining lake, abundant parking spaces, and sidewalks with numerous wooden walk bridges. Featured on the homes of this development is 20,000 sq. ft. of Englert metal roofing.

A metal fabric shading system from Cambridge Architectural delivers a smart and fresh design for 116 University Avenue, matching the building's place and purpose in the heart of high-tech Palo Alto, CA. The building is among 10 that make up the campus of Internet giant Facebook. Situated between Stanford University and downtown Palo Alto, the new structure houses the Facebook Cafe – the company's upscale employee cafeteria, as well as the offices of Joseph Bellomo Architects, the building's designer.

The Tempe (AZ) Transportation Center – a mixed-use center of retail, city offices and leased office space that serves as a link for light rail, bus, bike and pedestrian activities – is one of the first transportation/community buildings in the nation to be submitted for LEED Platinum certification. Included in the $25-million project is the 40,000-square-foot center that officially opened in December 2008, coinciding with the start of Metro light rail operations. The community room’s appearance as a faceted gem is aided by Alucobond® Aluminum Composite Material by Alcan Composites USA, which clads the room’s walls and roof in the custom Spectra Green color and its underside in Platinum.

Sometimes it’s about substance. SHW Group’s floating conference room, dubbed The Cube and designed by architect Mike Hall, sits above the lobby of their atrium in Plano, Texas. The lofty conference room’s western side is covered with Austenite 55 Stainless Steel. A handsome finish that captures the light and reflects it, adding interest and distinction to the room, Austenite 55 Stainless Steel is one of the many distinctively finished stainless steels from Contrarian Metal Resources of Allison Park, PA.

Just off the shores of the San Francisco Bay sits the new Redwood Shores Community Library, providing a gathering place and educational center as well as an eco-friendly facility. The 21,500 sq. ft. bay-side building is topped with Morin’s SLR-16 standing seam metal roofing. The panels can be formed from Galvalume®, aluminum, zinc, copper or stainless steel, but in the case of the library project they were formed from 22-gauge steel with a Champagne Bronze Metallic paint finish.

With “First to the Future” as the theme, the 2009 NextGen home features the newest product offering from DECRA Roofing Systems - Villa Tile in Amalfi Sand. The focus is on strong, green and energy efficient design. Officials at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center wanted a look for the facility that matched its role as a world-class provider of innovative, high-tech career education. Located in Clayton, OH, the Center serves 27 area high schools and offers more than 50 career technical programs. Approximately 8,500 sq. ft. of .063" aluminum Dri-Design panels finished in Arabian Blue were used to create the dramatic new look. The Dri-Design Wall Panels System is an affordable, dry-joint, pressure-equalized rainscreen system. The renovation design was developed by App Architecture of Englewood, OH.

RCA Metal Inc., A VICWEST Company located in Memramcook, New Brunswick, Canada, fabricated the nearly 6,000 sq. ft. of architectural panels specified as part of the design of the Kenneth C. Rowe Management Building in Halifax, Novia Scotia, Canada. The panels were fabricated from ALPOLIC aluminum composite material, which is produced by Mitsubishi Chemical FP America Inc.

GMH Architects of Drayton Valley, Alberta, Canada, was the designer of the new digs for Drayton Valley’s Brandette Well Servicing Ltd. To provide its client with the desired combination of form and function, the firm mixed conventional building materials with metal building systems and products from Robertson Building Systems, and used the construction services of Camdon Construction, a Robertson authorized builder located in Red Deer, Alberta.

A woven metal mesh system from Cambridge Architectural serves as both a stunning and sustainable exterior accent for the ultramodern Santa Monica Civic Center parking garage in Santa Monica, CA. The 900-space garage was designed not only to visually inspire but to meet or exceed many of the USGBC’s LEED guidelines. The structure employs various sustainable design and construction practices, materials and products – including Cambridge’s architectural mesh.

The new Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA in Cranberry Township, PA is truly state-of-the-art. Located on a 20-acre site, the 80,000 sq. ft. facility includes an indoor aquatics center with four pools, a fitness center, gymnasium, community rooms and a 12,000 sq. ft. wellness center. “The challenge was to design a building that illustrated the activities inside,” said Ralph Sterzinger, principal and project architect, Ross Schonder Sterzinger Cupcheck P.C., Wexford, PA. Featured on the exterior is 5,000 sq. ft. of Citadel Envelope 2000® metal composite panels.

An eye doctor practicing in both the United States and Holland decided to build a new medical office complex in Dothan, AL. Preferring the style of the buildings in Holland to those in the U.S., the doctor commissioned a Dutch firm to design the new building. Saliba Construction of Dothan was tapped to handle the project’s general contracting duties and helped coordinate the replication of features that both the owner and architect wanted. To help with those elements the G.C. enlisted the services of Marty Robbins Roofing Co. Inc., also of Dothan, and Sheffield Metals International of Sheffield Village, OH.

Martco Limited Partnership is a manufacturer of engineered forest products such as hard wood lumber, oriented strand board, pine plywood and treated poles. They produce over 850 million square feet of oriented strand board annually. To accommodate such large production, Martco utilized a Metallic Building Company pre-engineered building system for this multi-million dollar project in Oakdale, LA. The massive plant facility is comprised of several buildings and totaled more than 580,000 square feet.

A dilapidated 1960’s era gymnasium was masterfully transformed into a modern and inspirational worship and education center at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services’ facility in Cutlerville, MI. The new 15,500 sq. ft. Postma Center has become the centerpiece of the 220-acre campus. While a significant portion of the existing structure was re-used, only a shadow of the former image remains. The project features a variety of products from Petersen Aluminum.
