PressLock Grille from Ohio Gratings Inc., (OGI) of Canton, OH, is featured on the recently completed Blackhawk/Halsted Parking Deck in Chicago, IL. According to the manufacturer, its product was specified for its ability to meet the architect’s demands for a lightweight, open product. Structural steel supports were added around the parking structure to allow for continuous panel alignment as the ramps of the parking deck changed levels. Smaller panels were used as part of a segmented arc at their north elevation to create a canopy that extends over the top of the parking deck.

Seals and sea lions in captivity tend to have more eye problems than other zoo animals, with research suggesting it is related to prolonged exposure to sunlight and the amount of light that reflects off the surface of the pools in their habitats. With this in mind, as part of a complete renovation of the sea lion exhibit at the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines, Iowa, two large canopies were constructed, using metal panels from The Garland Company, Inc.

Nowland Associates Inc.’s three building project for the Blood Bank Of Delmarva is an addition to a complex of three existing Star buildings which was also handled by the Newark, Delaware construction services firm. The new addition to the Delmarva, Delaware facility measures 8,370 sq. ft., for a combined project square footage of 60,000.

The growing Blount Community Church of Maryville, TN was in need of a new facility, including areas for worship, daycare and classrooms. The affordable solution was to erect metal building framing from A & S Building Systems, topped with standing seam roofing from MBCI and clad with insulated metal panels from Metl-Span.

The material they were fabricated from was from RHEINZINK America Inc., Woburn, MA.

Nearly 300,000 sq. ft. of Metl-Span panels clad the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner Final Assembly Plant in North Charleston, SC. The facility includes 1.2 million sq. ft. of usable space for the manufacture of the 787. The 787 is the first commercial airliner made substantially with lightweight carbon composites, which promises to cut fuel costs for airlines.

Set to open in 2016, the new development at the Boeing Delivery Center in Charleston, SC will be a state-of-the-art aircraft paint facility. The 256,000 square-foot facility - featuring metal products from CENTRIA - is 10 stories high and almost two football fields wide, big enough to house two Boeing 787 Dreamliners simultaneously.

A new storage hangar owned by Bohemian Real Estate II LLC, is situated at the Fort Collins/Loveland Airport in Loveland, CO. The 32,685 sq. ft. facility used a Rigid Frame metal building system by VP Buildings. In addition to serving as an aircraft storage hangar, the facility includes support shops and office space. The 19,500 sq. ft. hangar is surrounded on two sides with the shop/covered parking, while a third side—the main entry facade—contains the office areas and is faced with timber trusses, timber columns and stone to be consistent with the local architectural influences.

When Bombardier announced plans to build a new aircraft assembly plant at the Toronto Pearson International Airport, it wanted the new $400 million facility to represent the company's commitment to sustainability. Fittingly, the new building's envelope is comprised of insulated metal panel systems from Kingspan Insulated Panels.

Bonny Slope Elementary School, located in Portland, Oregon, began a renovation project in 2008 that would improve the learning environment, as well as the building’s energy efficiency. Approximately 25,000 sq. ft. of RHEINZINK® 0.8mm/22 gauge Preweathered Flat-Lock Tiles and perforated panels were used as a key design element for the expansion of the Boston Children’s Museum. The $47 million expansion and renovation project was designed by Cambridge Seven Associates, Inc., Cambridge, MA. The design was conceived to augment the strong, simple mass of the existing warehouse structure while creating a new look for the museum. The design also takes full advantage of the dramatic waterfront site.

Energy efficiency and appearance. Those two requirements were front and center in the planning of the Boston Seaport Self Storage facility in Beantown's Seaport District.
