Situated in Plano, TX, the new Plano Material Recovery Facility combines Varco Pruden Buildings' Rigid Frame and WideBay framing systems with conventional/custom steel construction. The 71,844 sq. ft. facility was selected as the winner of the Government category in the 2020 Varco Pruden Hall Of Fame presentation.

The power of a community center is dependent on the initiative of the community and the performance of the center. In Presque Isle, Maine, the Sargent Family Community Center is a recent addition that has changed how the community gathers, plays and develops. The new center, which replaces a smaller 1940’s structure in need of renovations, welcomes residents from the moment the building is in sight. Helping to grab their attention are the building's metal wall panels--Panel 20® by Citadel Architectural Products.

The owner of Superior Fireworks in Orange Park, Fla., put his trust in his design/build firm and ended up with a new facility that met all of his needs and came in at budget. The new facility houses a retail outlet as well as a large warehouse and shipping area, so aesthetics was an important consideration. The owner was seeking a stucco look on the exterior of the building. Insulated metal panels (IMPs) from Metl-Span provided the desired finish at a lower price.

Growth and expansion have defined the ongoing evolution at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) during recent years. The transition from a commuter school for continuing education into a four-year campus with resident students created the need for a recreation and wellness facility that serves as a campus landmark. With the help of material from McElroy Metal, the school now has it.

Combining two building locations onto a new site, the single-story Halo Branded Solutions headquarters houses approximately 500 employees in an open office environment separated by different ceiling heights and freestanding structures such as conference rooms. Using long bay truss purlins by Star Building Systems to create the structure, Winter Construction Inc. was able to complete the 157,000 square foot facility in twelve months.

At the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a new Design Building has brought together previously dispersed departments in a LEED Gold structure that is integrated with the campus’ material palette. Leers Weinzapfel Associates, Boston, selected materials that speak to Amherst’s rural environment, particularly timber and metal. The team chose Dri-Design Wall Panels in a copper anodized finish to create a truly unique look.

The future of transportation has arrived in Jacksonville, Florida. Regional shuttles, bus lines, taxis and rideshares all share a brand-new hub in the heart of the city. The Jacksonville Regional Transportation Center (JRTC) is forward-thinking in its design and features on its exterior insulated metal wall panels from Kingspan.

With the recent construction of an 80’ x 150’ marina service building, along with the acquisition of a 330-metric-ton Marine Travelift, Portland Yacht Services is poised to service bigger boats and even more customers. The key element in bringing the company’s latest service expansion plan to fruition was equipping the new building with a door large enough for the new Travelift to fit through. Manufacturing such a door might’ve been a problem for some, but not for Hector, MN-based Schweiss Doors.

Local building covenants limiting the use of some metal construction materials were influential in the design of Eustis Body Shop in Lincoln, NE. The office/body shop facility was built by Schwisow Construction Inc. of Lincoln, using Rigid Frame and Continuous Beam framing from Varco Pruden Building Systems.

400 Dexter is a large eco-friendly development in Seattle that brings together science and technology tenants. For such occupants, an innovative, welcoming and advanced look was desired. Citadel Architectural Products’ GlazeGuard® 1000 WR+ was selected to add sophisticated appeal to the structure.

A mixed-medium masterpiece of Metl-Span insulated metal panels, glass, wood, and stone building elements, the award-winning ilani Casino Resort property in Ridgefield, WA was designed to reflect the culture of the Northwest with unique aesthetic cues that pay tribute to the heritage of the local Cowlitz Indian Tribe.

Time is limited and regulations are tight for construction in the Greater Toronto Area, so it was probably no surprise when the developers of the Bluebird Self-Storage project presented architects with a challenge: build an aesthetically appealing facility and do it fast. Antelope Valley College focused on its future with a retrofit project that created the Palmdale Center in Palmdale, Calif. With the project, the college now has a self-contained satellite campus that once was an existing grocery store with an attached medical office building. Dri-Design Tapered Series wall panels were selected to set the campus apart from the surrounding buildings.

The new Myrtle Beach Middle School in Myrtle Beach, S.C., offers a vision of the future, in both its eye-catching design and award-winning performance. The school, like four other new elementary and middle schools opened in less than two years by the Horry County School District, is engineered to be net-energy positive. A bold color scheme was created with broad expanses of PAC-CLAD Precision Series metal panels from Petersen.
