Columbus Middle School

Students do not typically look forward to returning to school after Christmas break, but 6th-8th graders in Columbus, Mississippi, were anxious to hit the books in early 2011; they were excited to move into their newly-constructed, state-of-the-art school. Perhaps what they weren't expecting, however, was the level of technology and the fun, casual atmosphere they would find when they stepped into the 150,515 -square foot facility that involved custom-designed metal construction from a hometown company, Ceco Building Systems.

Wyckoff Exchange

Brooklyn is enjoying a renaissance of rediscovery thanks to artists, retailers, ambitious contractors and creative designers like Andre Kikoski Architect. The Manhattan-based firm just completed the renovation and conversion of two empty warehouse buildings at 22-28 Wyckoff Ave., transforming those once-abandoned structures into The Wyckoff Exchange, the Bushwick neighborhood’s newest mixed-use development. Helping secure the development's new businesses are horizontally opening bifold doors by Minnesota-based Schweiss Doors.

Chalmette High School Cultural Arts Center

The opening of the Chalmette High School's new Cultural Arts Center is another Katrina comeback story for the residents of St. Bernard Parish in New Orleans, LA. Designed for both public and school use, the center celebrated its grand opening on March 18, 2011. Featured prominently on the building's exterior are overlapping metal wall shingles. Overly Manufacturing fabricated them from Contrarian Metal Resources' InvariMatte® stainless steel.

Sykes Chapel And Center For Faith And Values

The Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values is one of the newest structures at the University of Tampa. Early in the design process, stainless steel was considered for the 15,000 sq. ft. building’s roof as a reference to the stainless steel minarets that grace the University’s historic Plant Hall. But RHEINZINK zinc was ultimately used instead because of its visual softness and ability to diffuse light as required by the design. In addition to being used for the roof, RHEINZINK is featured on the building’s fascia and soffits.

Few Quad - Duke University

Buildings at prestigious universities often take on iconic status, as many provide literally 100-plus years of service to make them key focal points that define the campus. Such is the case with Duke University in Durham, NC. When it came time to restore the copper leaderheads on Few Quad at Duke, it’s certain that the selection of replacement materials was not taken lightly. Ornametals Manufacturing, LLC stepped in to provide exactly what was needed for this historic restoration, in the form of copper leaderheads that matched the existing ones.

D.K.’s Market

The 650 residents of the small farming community of Hamel, Ill., 30 miles northeast of St. Louis, had not enjoyed the convenience of a local grocery store in over 10 years. To remedy this problem, four local couples joined together to finance and build D.K.'s Market (named after the initials of the owners' children) and chose as contractor R.W. Boeker Company, also of Hamel, a Ceco Building Systems builder since 1987.

U.S. Navy Pierside Maintenance Offices

While not permitted to reveal the project’s location, Panel Built Inc., a Blairsville, GA-based manufacturer of prefabricated, relocatable structures, is nonetheless excited to share the highlights of an interesting project it completed for the United States Navy.

Palmer Bank

Located on a high-traffic, signature intersection in Taylorville, IL, Palmer Bank sought a timeless design that would visually represent its strength and stability to the community. Approximately 12,000 sq. ft. of 24 gauge, 16” Petersen Snap-Clad panels and 2,200 sq. ft. of PAC-850 Soffit Panels were utilized to meet the design objectives. Design for the design/build project was provided by The Redmond Company, Waukesha, WI.

LSU Student Union Theater Lobby

A custom stainless steel metal fabric ceiling system from Cambridge Architectural smartly drapes between lighting fixtures, creating a clean and modern overhead surface for the newly renovated Louisiana State University (LSU) Student Union Theater lobby in Baton Rouge, LA. Originally constructed in 1965, the LSU Student Union Theater is the largest theater venue on the school's campus.

Lafayette Library And Learning Center

Metal Sales Manufacturing Corporation, a premier nationwide provider of metal panels for the building and construction industry, covered the new Lafayette Library and Learning Center in Lafayette, CA with 31,000 square feet of vibrant and durable roofing panels. The Vertical Seam 24 gauge panels, coated in a cool Mistique Plus color, provide a complementary design aesthetic as well as sustainable functionality. The project team consisted of Killefer Flammang Architects, Santa Monica, CA, and installer PetersenDean, Newark, CA.

David H. Murdock Core Laboratory

Located on the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC, the David H. Murdock Core Laboratory features a beautiful copper standing seam roof that is the perfect complement to the facility’s brick exterior. The focal point of the laboratory’s roof is a majestic copper dome topped by a 10’-high copper finial, created from copper supplied by Ornametals.

North Tract Loft Apartments

With decorative appeal in mind, The Preston Partnership of Falls Church, VA, designed the buildings of the new North Tract Loft Apartment community with a variety of exterior cladding materials, including 85,000 square feet of Bright Silver Omega-Lite aluminum composite panels, manufactured by Laminators Incorporated. Omega-Lite panels contain a total of 70% recycled content which can contribute to achieving LEED points.

Jackson Transit Authority

As the result of funding from federal, state and city governments, along with American Recovery Act assistance, the City of Jackson, Tennessee recently constructed a new transit facility through the assistance of a general contractor - Hoyt Hayes Construction - working exclusively with American-made products. It only seems appropriate that those products were supplied by American Buildings Company (ABC), a Nucor company and leading manufacturer of high-quality metal building systems.

Basin Electric Power Cooperative – Leland Olds Station

The Leland Olds Station, located near Stanton, ND, is the first power plant for Basin Electric Power Cooperative - one of the largest electric generation and transmissions cooperatives in the United States. CENTRIA’s Versawall and Versapanel insulated metal composite panels were selected for the Leland Olds Station because of their outstanding performance features, as well as their superior benefits in terms of sustainability and aesthetics.

San Jose International Airport Terminal B

The new Terminal B concourse at the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport in California is the first monumental architectural project constructed with Duranar® powder coatings by PPG Industries' industrial coatings business. Duranar Regal White powder coatings were applied to a series of curved, perforated metal panels that arc over the main Terminal B structure. Overly Manufacturing, Greensburg, Pa., was the metal panel manufacturer.

Ocean Surveys, Inc.

Most northern latitude metal contractors were extremely challenged during the 2010-11 winter in getting their projects started. A great example of this is Pat Munger Construction, Inc. of Branford, CT, who had to dig out of more than normal snowfall to start a retrofit re-roofing project. The case in point is a project for Ocean Surveys, Inc. - a scientific data firm - located in Old Saybrook, CT. Roof Hugger, Inc. was called in to help create a retrofit sub-framing system that would eliminate the slope transition.

New England Regional Council Of Carpenters Center

The New England Regional Council of Carpenters (NERCC) has represented the interests of its members for more than 130 years. When the new home of NERCC and the Boston Carpenters Training Center was designed in Boston, MA, it was important to organization leaders that it be comprised of both traditional and modern architectural influences. To achieve this goal, the new $20-million 74,000 sq. ft., three-story Carpenters Center features a mix of materials, including modern Alucobond® Aluminum Composite Material (ACM) by 3A Composites USA.

Jacob K. Javits Center Expansion & Renovation

One of the nation’s premier convention facilities, the Jacob K. Javits Center is located at 34th Street and 11th Avenue, on the west side of Manhattan. Completed in 1986, the Javits Center has hosted thousands of trade shows, conferences and special events, including many of the top 200 tradeshows. However, the facility hadn’t been expanded or renovated in 25 years, and it was in dire need of more space. Aiding in that revitalization were custom-designed metal building systems from Ceco Building Systems.

Edward Jones Building - St. Louis

A variation of Dri-Design’s patented rainscreen metal wall panels were utilized to create a mechanical penthouse atop the recently completed 10-story Edward Jones building in St. Louis, MO. The 1.5mm-thick perforated zinc panels were fabricated by Dri-Design from VM Quartz Zinc. VM Quartz Zinc is produced by Umicore Building Products USA.

Amway Center And Parking Garage

Orlando, Florida’s new Amway Center, home to the NBA’s Orlando Magic, is a key part of an overall strategic plan for continued revitalization of Orlando’s urban core, designed to make that area a recreation and dining destination. In addition to the Magic and NCAA basketball events, the multi-purpose design allows the arena to host hockey and arena football games, ice shows, concerts and many other special events. A wide range of products from CENTRIA are prominently featured on the facility.
