UC Health Clifton Campus Expansion

Architect CannonDesign was tasked with designing the 41,000 square foot expansion of the University of Cincinnati (UC) Medical Center to increase its capacity and patient flow. As the growing region’s only Level I trauma center for adults, speed of build was of utmost importance. That's one of the reasons the architect opted to go with insulated metal panels (IMPs) from Kingspan Insulated Panels for the exterior envelope.

UCLA Center For The Health Sciences South Tower Renovation

Banker Wire worked with ZGF Architects LLP to create a custom mesh railing infill for the South Tower building on UCLA’s Center for the Health Sciences (CHS) complex. The 443,000 sq. ft. building underwent a seismic upgrade and renovation to convert nine of the former hospital’s 12 floors into research lab space.

UC-Riverside Student Recreation Center

Coated metal panels create a wave-like scrim around the exterior of the University of California-Riverside's newly expanded Student Recreation Center. The panels were fabricated from aluminum plate and post-painted with a Bright Silver XL shade of Valspar’s Fluropon® premium paint.

UCSF Helen Diller Family Cancer Research Building

The University Of California, San Francisco’s Helen Diller Family Research Building is a state-of-the-art research facility that provides a home for scientists investigating cancer’s basic biological cause. The building was designed to accommodate the work of researchers and clinicians who are dedicated to laboratory and clinical research, as well as patient care. The five-story building - featuring metal wall solutions from CENTRIA - was built according to LEED guidelines.

Ultimate Soccer Arenas Complex

The Ultimate Soccer Arenas Complex's enormous size is not the only feature that sets this 267,000-square-foot arena apart from the rest. It was constructed, from the first beam to finishing exterior touches, in just 88 days. The speedy construction process can be attributed to the use of pre-engineered metal framing. The structure was built by Michigan-based Wolverine Steel Erectors, Inc. with materials supplied by Varco Pruden Buildings, one of the nation's largest providers of metal building system and a division of BlueScope Buildings North America, Inc.

UMass Lowell North Campus Parking Garage

More than 1,400 Dri-Design panels containing 3.3 million perforations were utilized to create an abstract design for one side of the new University of Massachusetts Lowell North Campus Parking Garage in Lowell, MA.

UMass-Amherst Design Building

At the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a new Design Building has brought together previously dispersed departments in a LEED Gold structure that is integrated with the campus’ material palette. Leers Weinzapfel Associates, Boston, selected materials that speak to Amherst’s rural environment, particularly timber and metal. The team chose Dri-Design Wall Panels in a copper anodized finish to create a truly unique look.

Uncommon

Developers had their reasons for naming a new apartment building on North High Street in Columbus, OH "Uncommon", but in all likelihood, it had nothing to do with the exterior look. Like so many of today's trendy multi-unit residential buildings, it is clad in part with aluminum composite metal wall panels; in this case from Laminators Inc. of Hatfield, PA.

Under Armour Corporate Offices Retail Store

Quality and durability have been hallmarks of the Under Armour® brand since its founding in 1996. It's fitting then that Schweiss Doors—another maker of gold-standard products—was chosen to provide a custom designed hydraulic door for the main entrance to the ground level retail store at Under Armour's Baltimore, MD headquarters.

Unicharm Manufacturing Facility

Seeking more control over its energy and power demands, Unicharm Co. Ltd. explored rooftop solar options for its manufacturing facility in Taiwan. Company officials liked the idea of adding rooftop solar, but were concerned about the added weight of glass crystalline panels. Aplus Energy Ltd. presented them with a building integrated solar option that not only weighed significantly less, but included other compelling features too.

Union Presbyterian Seminary - Spence Library

Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond, Virginia is a study in conservative Protestant history. From the outside, the red brick Tudor Revival buildings reflect their historical surroundings while the interiors reflect growth, change and development. The Presbyterian institution has been redefining and transforming some of its buildings. One of those subject to recent transformation is the Spence Library. To help turn it into a state-of-the-art environment for teaching and worship, Glavé & Holmes turned to GKD-USA.

Union Station Starbucks

With the backing of the world’s largest coffeehouse chain behind it, no efforts were spared to ensure the Washington, DC Union Station Starbucks location was inviting. But given the high traffic volume, its finishes also had to be durable. Seeking a reliable and aesthetically pleasing finish for both the interior and exterior walls, the in-house designers at Starbucks employed ALPOLIC ACM panels for a much-desired clean and modern look.

United Bank Main Branch

United Bank’s branch and corporate office has been a staple in Grand Rapids, MI, for years. Bank executives recently wanted to improve the banking experience and its headquarters functionality at the dated site with an exterior and interior renovation. Citadel Architectural Products’ Envelope 2000® metal composite material (MCM), installed using the RainScreen (RS) attachment system, was selected for the exterior.

United Therapeutics

United Therapeutics is a biotech company focusing on innovations in the fields of cardiovascular medicine, infectious diseases and cancer. The company’s research and development facility is nestled away in the tall white pines of North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park. Reflecting the high-tech nature of the activities within, the building’s exterior is a mix of aluminum composite metal wall panels and glass. Altech Panel Systems of Carterville, GA, fabricated the sleek metal wall panels from ALPOLIC aluminum composite material by Mitsubishi Chemical FP America Inc.

University Federal Credit Union, Ben White Branch

The Ben White Branch of the University Federal Credit Union (UFCU) in Austin, TX uses curved panels from Kalzip to create a unique but highly functional element of this dynamic green building. The facility actually has two of these unique cylindrical aluminum sheaths. One encircles a cistern that is part of the building’s rainwater collection system and the other is a sign that replicates the cover on the cistern.

University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center

The new University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center in Beachwood, Ohio is a $298-million 432,000 square-foot medical center which includes both a seven-story 144-bed hospital and a three-story outpatient medical building. The hospital is designed with a seven-story curved curtain wall filled with glass and accent bands fabricated from Alucobond® Aluminum Composite Material (ACM) by 3A Composites USA. Alucobond also clads a large portion of the medical center’s exterior walls, as well as other exterior and interior surfaces.

University Medical Center Of Princeton At Plainsboro

The University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro is one of the most technologically-advanced, environmentally-friendly hospitals in the country. Every design decision for the $523 million, 636,000-square-foot building was based on the New Jersey facility’s ability to promote healing, patient comfort and safety. A variety of metal products from CENTRIA are featured on the hospital.

University of Alabama-Huntsville Parking Structure

Chapman Sisson Architects of Huntsville collaborated with Banker Wire, a worldwide leader in the manufacture of wire mesh for architectural and industrial applications, to design attractive and unique mesh panels for the front of a new parking structure at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The material selected for the panels was Banker Wire’s M13Z-145 architectural woven wire mesh, a heavy, large scale, and rigid cable weave design.

University of Arizona Rooftop Shade Structure

Stainless steel fabric and a modified attachment system by Cambridge Architectural of Cambridge, MD, were among the products used to create a unique shade structure for the rooftop courtyard at the University of Arizona’s newly constructed Medical Research and Thomas Keating Bioresearch buildings. Featured on the project were 240 Solar pattern metal fabric panels. They were mounted using a modified version of the manufacturer's Railway attachment system.

University of Arizona Sixth Street Residence Hall

The striking new Sixth Street Residence Hall at the University of Arizona in Tucson features a dramatic application of Dri-Design’s new Ombrae™ Imaging Technology. Ombrae was developed by artist and Hollywood set designer Roderick Quin and uses an advanced computer software system to cut three-dimensional pixels in Dri-Design panels.
