District Wharf

In the heart of Washington D.C. lies District Wharf, one of the area’s most ambitious development projects. District Wharf is both a destination and a community as it has a broad promenade, dining, shopping and easy access to water activities. A featured material on six new buildings there are insulated metal panels from Kingspan.

DLA Eastern Distribution Center

When the sun beats down on the DLA's new 1.7 million square foot warehouse in East Cumberland, PA, Solarwall® solar thermal collecting wall panels from Conserval Engineering of Toronto Ontario, Canada go to work. Installed on portions of the massive warehouse's east and south walls, the panels heat the warehouse interior, lowering heating costs by an estimated $350,000 a year.

Doc B's Kitchen

Doc B’s Fresh Kitchen in Chicago was established to become an extension of its customers' own kitchens; a place to grab something quick and healthy off an extensive menu, stay for a productive business meeting or gather with friends and family. To enhance the environment further at its Gold Coast location, the restaurant's owner installed a bifold door from Schweiss Doors. In the open position, it allows diners to enjoy good weather.

Dordt University Agricultural Stewardship Center

The new Dordt University Agricultural Stewardship Center in Sioux Center, Iowa, is a 26,325 sq. ft. facility constructed with Ridge Frame and Continuous Beam framing from Varco Pruden Buildings.

Dots Headquarters

The new corporate headquarters of Dots, the national fashion specialty retailer, was designed to create a “wow factor” for both employees and visitors. Located in Solon, OH, the facility includes 192,000 sq. ft. of office and distribution space. A unique 40’ tunnel—which doubles as a runway—links the reception area to the core of the building. Approximately 180 linear feet of 3 5/8”, 20 gauge Flex-C Trac® was used to help create the dramatic effect.

Douglas County Community And Senior Center

In Nevada's Douglas County, 30% of the 46,000 residents are senior citizens; thus the need for a senior community center had been vocalized for decades. The Douglas County Community and Senior Center was built, with the help of metal panels from MBCI, to become the focal point of the community as a whole - for all ages.

The new Dover Air Force Base Chapel in Dover, DE was designed so that the materials and equipment satisfy functional and operational requirements, and exceed minimum acceptable quality including aesthetics, durability, maintainability and reliability specified in the RFP. The project features products from American Buildings Company.

Dow Electronics

Metal roofing may be the material of choice in Tampa, FL - largely due to its capability to withstand extreme wind loads. A new term, "hardening", has come to the surface that defines the strengthening of a building's envelope (roof and walls). One example is the Dow Electronics facility which recently went through a hardening of its roof and walls. For the roof, Roof Hugger, Inc. of Lutz, FL was used because of its product's capability to strengthen the existing roof purlins and to increase the new roof's wind speed exposure.

Downstream Casino Resort

The new Downstream Casino Resort, located in northeast Oklahoma, offers 70,000 sq. ft. of casino floor space plus a 12-story hotel with all of the amenities of Las Vegas. An integral component of the interior theming of the casino, owned by the Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma, is the use of radiuses and curves to reflect the history of the tribe’s movement down the Ohio River to the Mississippi River and eventually west to Oklahoma. Designed by JCJ Architecture, Hartford, CT, the Downstream Casino project utilized more than 10,000 feet of Flex-C Angle® and nearly 9,000 feet of Flex-C Trac®.

Downtown Terrace Apartments

You’d never guess the 30-unit complex known as Downtown Terrace in San Luis Obispo, Calif., was made up entirely of mobile homes. Each two-story unit was manufactured in a factory and delivered with OSB siding. As a finishing touch, corrugated panels from McElroy Metal were installed as the façade to each building.

DPR Construction Headquarters

A barrel roof with HVAC equipment and skylights is not the ideal platform for a crystalline panel solar system, but a watertight attachment system from Silverback Solar allows architects, engineers and contractors to work with such challenges.

Dublin Honda

Aluminum composite panels from Laminators Inc. of Hatfield, PA, have been used on more than 300 Honda dealerships across the country. The most recent was in Dublin, CA, home of Dublin Honda. There, nearly 4,700 sq. ft. of Laminators’ Omega-Lite and Omega-Flex panels—in Honda Blue (custom color) and Bright Silver—were incorporated into a design developed in accordance with the auto maker’s corporate specifications.

Dublin/Pleasanton BART Station

A metal fabric system from Cambridge Architectural employs stunning, expansive panels of architectural mesh to add style and function to the parking garage serving the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) Dublin/Pleasanton Station in Pleasanton, CA. Dublin/Pleasanton is one of 43 BART stations that facilitates travel to and from downtown San Francisco, the East Bay and San Francisco International Airport. Because the station is so architecturally unique, plans called for its adjacent parking structure to meet the exact same design expectations – modern and memorable.

Duende Bar

South of Buffalo, NY are clusters of empty grain silos and associated processing facilities. Artists, musicians and a new generation of businesses are gravitating to the area—now known as Silo City—and seeking to turn it into something new and different. One of the businesses located there is Duende, a bar and event space whose décor is comprised of a mix of old and new materials, including texturized metal from Rigidized® Metals Corporation.

Duke Energy Center

The newest landmark on the Charlotte skyline, Duke Energy Center, is distinguished from its neighbors by a sculptural roofline with a sharply slanted, handle-shaped bridge at the crown, and faceted, truncated corners on the tower. The building’s complex geometry prompted the metal panel installer to develop an unconventional installation solution for the Reynobond Aluminum Composite Material wall panels. Reynobond is a product of Alcoa Architectural Products.

Dulles Metrorail Extension Stations

The Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project is a 23-mile extension of Washington’s existing Metrorail System. Construction of Phase 1 is complete and covers 11.7 miles with five stations. Phase 2 is underway and will complete the extension with six additional stations. Featured on 11 of the 12 stations is RHEINZINK titanium zinc cladding from RHEINZINK America Inc.

Duluth Transit Authority Multimodal Transportation Facility

The Duluth Transit Authority (DTA) Multimodal Transportation Facility in Duluth, MN is changing the way people travel through the city’s downtown area as it caters to 6,000 commuters and 600 bus movements each day. The $30 million hub, featuring metal products from CENTRIA, includes a bus transit terminal with a large, multi-level parking structure, bicycle parking and more that lends itself to commuters of all types.

Dumbo Heights Development

Work is completed on an elaborate project to transform the former home of the Jehovah’s Witnesses Watchtower district into a sleek office/retail and high-tech campus complex, renamed Dumbo Heights. Anchored at the nexus of the Brooklyn Tech Triangle and a thriving art district, Dumbo Heights is poised to become the area’s most sought after destination. It's also another showcase project for Schweiss Doors.

Dunkin' - Phoenix, AZ

As Dunkin’ continues to grow their brand, consumers will see a variety of interesting and unique store designs, all sporting the signature Dunkin’ logo. A new Dunkin’ location in Phoenix was designed by a.d. ArizaDo, an architectural design firm located in Tempe, AZ, using four colors of CastleTop metal shingles by ATAS International.

Dunkin’ - Cottonwood, AZ

The first-place winner in ATAS International’s 2021 project of the year competition in the commercial walls category is a Dunkin’ shop in Cottonwood, AZ. Four colors of CastleTop were incorporated into this unique façade design - Black, Chocolate Brown, Sierra Tan, and Almond - as a nod to the various shades of coffee that is served in this shop.
