Port Ludlow, Washington Home

For hundreds of years, going back to medieval cathedrals and even earlier structures, architects have specified copper when they wanted a roofing system that ages beautifully and lasts for decades – or even centuries. So when the owner of a new luxury waterfront home in Port Ludlow, Wash., wanted a roofing system that would be both durable and appropriate for the breathtaking natural surroundings, copper was a logical choice.

Port Of Baltimore Cruise Terminal

The Maryland Port Authority recently completed a metal-over-metal retrofit of their Port Of Baltimore Cruise Terminal facility. The 65,000 square foot building, located at the Port of Baltimore in Baltimore, Maryland, accommodates passengers embarking on vacations booked with Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Carnival Cruise Lines to exotic ports of call. The project features metal roofing by Metal-Fab Manufacturing (Met-Fab) and factory-notched sub-purlins supplied by Roof Hugger, Inc.

Port Of Kalama Transportation Interpretive Center

The Port of Kalama’s Transportation Interpretive Center opened to the public in November 2014. The vision for the Kalama, Washington facility was to replicate a traditional waterfront warehouse of the 1800s, and that goal was achieved with the help of AEP Span’s architectural metal panels in two new specialty finishes, Burnt Rust and Weathered Zinc.

Port Of Miami Tunnel

PPG Industries’ (NYSE:PPG) coil and building products group supplied Duranar® XL and Duracron® coatings to the new Port of Miami Tunnel, which is made up of two 4,200-foot-long highway tunnels that travel under Biscayne Bay, connecting the MacArthur Causeway on Watson Island to the Port of Miami on Dodge Island.

Port Pavilion On Broadway Pier

The new Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier, a $28 million cruise ship terminal at the Port of San Diego, is the second major building to feature color-shifting Duranar® VARI-Cool® coatings by PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG). Saul Suarez, an architect with Bermello Ajamil & Partners, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., specified Duranar VARI-Cool coatings in blue-green Polar Flare and Jamaican Reef colors for the two-story, 52,000 sq. ft. terminal.

Portland Yacht Services

With the recent construction of an 80’ x 150’ marina service building, along with the acquisition of a 330-metric-ton Marine Travelift, Portland Yacht Services is poised to service bigger boats and even more customers. The key element in bringing the company’s latest service expansion plan to fruition was equipping the new building with a door large enough for the new Travelift to fit through. Manufacturing such a door might’ve been a problem for some, but not for Hector, MN-based Schweiss Doors.

Portman Family Middle School

At the exclusive Lovett School in Atlanta, sustainability has become a part of the curriculum for all students. And what better place for students to learn such important lessons than in a newly opened LEED Silver school building. The new Portman Family Middle School incorporates a number of sustainable features. The building's exterior is a blend of brick, glass and ALPOLIC aluminum composite metal wall panels. ALPOLIC ACM is manufactured by Mitsubishi Plastics Composites America Inc. The material was fabricated into panels by Altech Panel Systems.

Pound Ridge House

How does an architect know it is selecting the best product for the job? In the case of the Pound Ridge House in Pound Ridge, NY, Kieran Timberlake of Philadelphia went above and beyond, placing material samples at the chosen home site and then waiting. It was the results after one year that led the firm to specify stainless steels from Contrarian Metal Resources for the unique home's construction.

Powerhouse Condominiums

Long Island City’s newest luxury condominium has been a local landmark for the past 100 years. The Powerhouse Condominiums, which welcomed its first residents in August 2008, gives new life to the old Penn Station powerhouse, which once provided electricity for the trains stopping in New York’s Penn Station. The architect’s transformation of the old property’s image was assisted by the specification of Reynobond aluminum composite material panels. The lightweight material was manufactured by Alcoa Architectural Products and fabricated into panels by the Riverside Group.

Prairie Meadows Racetrack And Casino

Creating a positive experience for customers is any business owner’s goal. Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino in Altoona, Iowa opened in 1995 to large crowds and excited gamblers. But with dwindling customers and revenue, the gaming commission approved a multi-phased renovation in an effort to enhance the gaming experience and attract business. Dri-Design contributed to the new contemporary look and architectural finishes of the casino with the interior installation of Shadow Series Panels.

PrairieCare Medical Group

PrairieCare Medical Group opened its 10th facility in Rochester, Minnesota in late 2019. A primary design emphasis was on providing plentiful natural daylight, which is made evident from the front façade’s extensive glazing. To frame the glazing and add some calming counterpoint to that elevation’s pattern and color, designers opted for neutral-toned metal flush and relief wall panels from Petersen.

Prescott Border Crossing Station

In January 2012, work was completed on a much-needed upgrade to Canada’s Prescott Border Crossing into the United States. The renovations will help the facility, which was originally constructed in 1960, better meet the needs of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). To help match the facility’s aesthetics with its new modernity, the architectural firm in charge of the project, Farrow Architects Inc. of Ottawa, Ontario, turned to ALPOLIC aluminum composite material.

Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department

The Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department has been a significant part of life in Prince Frederick, Md., for more than 90 years. So, when it came time to replace the aging structure that housed the organization’s Company 2 and its equipment, community was at the heart of the designers’ plans. Topping the new firehouse is a classic standing-seam metal roof from Petersen that promises to perform just as well as it looks.

Princess Anne Office Building

A part of the Children’s Hospital Of The King’s Daughters, the Princess Anne Office Building is located at the new Sentara Princess Anne Medical campus in Virginia Beach, Virginia. A signature of the building’s exterior is a curved roof sweep created with aluminum standing seam panels by ATAS International. Situated on the ocean front, the 60,000 sq. ft. facility is only minutes down the street from an amphitheater on the appropriately-named Concert Drive. With that in mind, the building features a musically-themed environment for pediatric patients, who range in age from infants to 21 year olds.

Princess Anne Outpatient Medical Center

Citadel panels highlight prominent entryways and design features of the new Princess Anne Outpatient Medical Center in Virginia Beach, VA. Part of the Sentara Healthcare network, the facility is located on 24 acres and includes two medical office buildings, emergency department, imaging center, laboratory services and retail pharmacy.Approximately 3,500 sq. ft. of Citadel Envelope 2000® Rout & Return System panels were utilized. Lyall Design of Norfolk, VA, was the project's architect.

Principle Business Enterprises Manufacturing Plant Addition

When designing the Principle Business Enterprises’ (PBE) manufacturing plant in Bowling Green, Ohio, architect Kate MacPherson and PBE owners Carol and Chuck Stocking conducted extensive research. They were on a quest for the best daylighting product on the market. After identifying Kingspan Light + Air | CPI Daylighting’s UniQuad translucent wall panel system, the Stocking’s traveled across the Midwest reviewing existing UniQuad installations. Ultimately, 4,480 sq. ft. of the wall system was incorporated into the new PBE headquarters.

Prism Plane Office Building

Though it blends beautifully with the colorful prismatic glass curtain wall around it, the Schweiss Doors hydraulic designer door incorporated as part of the remodel of a Boulder, Colorado office building has no trouble standing out. In its closed position the door looks an appropriate part of the overall wall, but open, it forms a grand opening to connect indoor and outdoor areas at the project dubbed Prism Plane.

Private Home In Salt Lake City

This 10,000 sq. ft. home located in a prestigious area of Salt Lake City, Utah, features diamond-shaped copper shingle roofing, along with a variety of other hand-crafted copper products from Copper Exclusive and its founder Erno Ovari. Among the impressive array of products designed, hand-made and installed by Copper Exclusive were: diamond-shaped copper roof shingles, crown molding, soffit, fascia, gutters, snow hooks, finials and more. A total of 16,000 lbs. of hand-crafter copper products were used on the project.

Private Residence - Caledonia

As part of an ambitious residential remodel, a Canadian homeowner turned a one-story home into a two, and changed its style from classic bungalow to Spanish mission. In completing a true-to-style transformation, the owner chose stucco and brick for the home’s new exterior walls and tile for the roof. But Allmet stone-coated steel—provided by VICWEST—was chosen over authentic clay or concrete for two basic reasons: weight and longevity.
