Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal B

Three types of flexible track products from Flex-Ability Concepts were used in the high-tech modernization of Terminal B at Newark (NJ) Liberty International Airport. The modernization strategy called for turning a former ground floor parking area—which was taken out of service as a security measure after the 911 World Trade Center attack—into a 70,000 sq. ft. baggage claim space for domestic arrivals. The improvements in Terminal B are part of an overall $279 million renovation of the entire terminal to accommodate growing passenger volume.

Newcastle Intl. Airport Traffic Control Tower

A Kalzip 65/400 aluminum standing seam system has been chosen to clad the new $16.3 million Air Traffic Control Tower at Newcastle International Airport in the North of England. Designed by 3D Reid Architects, this very distinctive 150’-high vase-like structure boasts several cascading tiers of tapered Kalzip panels with widths varying between 12 and 18 inches. Installed by Teamkal contractor Lakesmere Ltd, UK, for main contractor Sir Robert McAlpine, UK, the Kalzip system provides a cost effective, compact solution that serves to complete the striking geometry of this futuristic building.

NewCold Tacoma

Newmarket Operations Centre

And while it’s true the newly completed Ontario Operations Centre in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, is a functional success, the building’s unique requirements dictated it be more than just a workshop or storage building. It needed to look good too. And by incorporating bifold liftstrap doors from Fairfax, MN-based Schweiss Doors, it does.

News & Advance Newspaper Printing Press Building

The News & Advance, Lynchburg, VA recently concluded a two-year, $26 million expansion project based around the installation of a state-of-the-art, German-made color printing press. The modernization project brings the daily paper to the forefront of newspaper production technology, according to publisher Terry Jamerson. More than 18,000 sq. ft. of Metl-Span CF Architectural insulated wall panels were used to clad the five-story addition to the newspaper’s existing building. The majority of the 3” panels were installed horizontally with a 1” reveal. The panels were finished in Sandstone.

A sleek LandscapeInteriors™ metal fabric application from Cambridge Architectural elegantly dresses a gallery ceiling and building elevators inside the high-tech Newseum in Washington, D.C. The news-centered museum is located between the White House and the U.S. Capitol on the National Mall, and boasts world-class architecture from Polshek Partnership Architects. It houses seven levels of unparalleled artifacts, media and interactive experiences that tell the five-centuries-old story of news, highlighting both contemporary and historic issues.

Niche 905

When passersby stroll through Chicago’s Near North neighborhood, they might take pause at Niche 905, an 18-story residential tower. Chicago is not in short supply of high rises, but this one is grabbing attention for its functional garage ventilation screen that also acts as art. Dri-Design’s Tapered Series Panels were perforated and installed to add sculptural art to the building with dimension and playful shadows.

Niles North Aquatics Center

The Niles North Aquatics Center, home to a year-round competitive swim program hosted by the local school district, Illinois Swimming and USA Swimming, features a new two-story addition and competition pool, in Skokie, Illinois. KJWW Engineering Consultants worked with Vulcraft Group, supplier of steel joists, steel joist girders and steel decking, to complete the project.

Nils K. Nelson Bioscience Innovation Building

The new Nils K. Nelson Bioscience Innovation Building at Purdue University Northwest was designed not only to serve as a state-of-the-art teaching facility – housing the university’s college of nursing and department of biological sciences – but as a new “front door” to the 167-acre campus in Hammond, Ind. Aluminum composite material cladding from 3A Composites USA is featured on the exterior.

Nine Fine Irishmen Patio Bar

In the annals of Irish history, the tale of the Nine Fine Irishmen is the stuff of legend. It's fitting then that a Las Vegas pub bearing the same name should be something special too. The bar enjoys a destination reputation for its authentic food, spirits and entertainment, as well as for its incredible décor. Ordell Construction, a general contractor and Varco Pruden Builder™, led the design and expansion of a six-year-old brew house in Oregon. Owned by Ninkasi Brewing Company, a microbrewery based in Eugene, the expanded facility was slated to triple the company's output capacity.

NJ Corporate Headquarters Transformation

In 2008, an international pharmaceutical company began looking for a location to expand its North American headquarters. The client initially rejected a 770,000 sq. ft. building in Plainsboro, NJ due to its appearance. But that was before a $220 million renovation transformed it. Playing a huge role in the structure's new look and new lease on life were metal claddings and entry systems from Alcoa Architectural Products and Kawneer, respectively.

North American Stainless Inspection Office

Located at North American Stainless, a large steel mill in Ghent, Kentucky, this is not your average in-plant office on a mezzanine. Around-the-clock inspectors at the mill needed a safe and comfortable environment to check steel sheeting for imperfections, with minimal disruption to the line. Panel Built designed a unique solution that maintained production flow while allowing every inch of the steel to be examined.

North Atlanta Church Of Christ

It’s always good practice to measure twice and cut once. Sometimes, it pays to measure more than twice. After tearing off aged and damaged asphalt shingles, Ideal Building Solutions of Norcross, GA, installed 15,631 square feet of standing seam metal panels on a multi-hipped roof at the North Atlanta Church of Christ on a strict deadline. In just two days, the panels were manufactured onsite by a roll former from McElroy Metal.

North Carolina National Guard Joint Force Headquarters

The $44.6 million North Carolina National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Raleigh, NC was designed to provide a reserve center for the North Carolina National Guard personnel throughout peacetime missions. It is also home to the State of North Carolina Emergency Operations Center, the Statewide Transportation Center and the Highway Patrol’s Regional Communications Center. Metal products from CENTRIA are featured prominently in the design.
